Preview: Maine set to host UNH in America East Championship game on Sunday

The Black Bears and Wildcats will kick off at 3 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will host rival New Hampshire in the America East Championship game at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Mahaney Diamond.
 
Tickets for the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle are available online HERE, over the phone at 207-581-BEAR or in-person at the Alfond Arena ticket office during normal business hours. Tickets can also be purchased on Sunday afternoon at the gates to Mahaney Diamond. 
 
The top-seeded Black Bears advanced to the title game for the second consecutive year with a 2-0 win over UMass Lowell on Thursday night. Meanwhile, the second-seeded Wildcats topped Binghamton, 3-1, for a spot in the championship. This is the first-ever title game meeting between the two rivals.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine is 12-1-3 overall and went 7-0-1 in America East play to earn the first-ever regular season title and No. 1 seed in program history … Maine's 12 wins mark the most for the program since going 14-4-2 in 2006.
• The Black Bears topped UMass Lowell, 2-0, on Nov. 7 to advance to a second consecutive America East title game … Kayla Kraemer scored in the first half and Abbey Thornton scored in the second half.
• Abby Kraemer (6-4-16) leads the team in points with Jordane Pinette (5-3-13), Kristina Kelly (3-5-11), Lara Kirkby (4-3-11) and Kayla Kraemer (4-3-11) also hitting double-digit points … Maine is the first America East team since 2016 to have five players with at least 10 points each.
• Maine gave up just 24 shots on target in America East play for the lowest total by a conference squad since 2016.
• Maine's 7-0-1 conference record and 22 points marked the best finish since Boston University went 8-0-0 for 24 points in 2012 … Maine earned the first regular season title and No. 1 seed in program history with the program-record seven conference wins.
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
• The Wildcats enter the title match at 12-4-1 overall after downing Binghamton, 3-1, in Thursday's semifinal.
• UNH finished second in the conference standings at 6-1-0, with the lone loss coming to the Black Bears in the regular season finale.
• Meghan Guarente – the 2024 America East Striker of the Year – leads the team with 10 goals and two assists for 22 points … Delaney Lappin has recorded four goals and three assists for 11 points while Elizabeth Finn has 10 points on three goals and four assists.
• Sally Rainey – the 2024 America East Goalkeeper of the Year – has played all 1,530 minutes in goal, going 12-4-1 while posting a .65 goals against average, .828 save percentage and nine shutouts.
• The Wildcats were tabbed third in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll.

SERIES HISTORY vs NEW HAMPSHIRE
• Maine holds an all-time record of 17-19-4 in the series with New Hampshire.
• The last six games and 15 of the last 16 have been decided by one goal or less … the teams met just over a week ago in Durham, with Maine picking up a 1-0 win on an Abby Kraemer penalty kick conversion.
• Maine has not beaten New Hampshire at home since a 1-0 win on Sept. 27, 2018.
• Current Black Bears Julie Lossius (1-0-2), Abby Kraemer (1-0-2) and Madison Michaud (0-1-1) have recorded a point against the Wildcats.
• The first-ever meeting in the series came in 1990, with UNH picking up a 6-1 win.
