Preview: Maine, Wisconsin set to meet in first round of NCAA Tournament

Kick off is set for 8 p.m. EST

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will face the University of Wisconsin in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Friday night at the McClimon Track/Soccer Complex.
 
Kick off between the Black Bears and Badgers is set for 8 p.m. EST, with the contest streaming live on ESPN+.
 
Maine is making its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance while this is the 25th for Wisconsin. This is the first-ever meeting between these two teams.

ABOUT MAINE
• The Black Bears sit at 13-1-3 overall after defeating New Hampshire in the America East Championship game on Sunday to earn a second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid.
• Abby Kraemer (7-5-19) leads the team in points with Jordane Pinette (6-3-15), Lara Kirkby (5-4-14), Kristina Kelly (3-5-11) and Kayla Kraemer (4-4-12) also hitting double-digit points … Maine is the first America East team since 2016 to have five players with at least 10 points each.
• With a 2-0 win over UMass Lowell and 3-0 win over UNH, the Black Bears became the first team to finish the conference tournament without conceding a goal since 2010.
• Maine gave up just 24 shots on target in America East play for the lowest total by a conference squad since 2016.
 
ABOUT WISCONSIN
• The Badgers enter Friday night's contest at 9-5-4 overall on the year … Wisconsin fell in the first round of the Big Ten tournament on Nov. 1 to a #10 Ohio State squad but earned an at-large bid and a five seed.
• Aryssa Mahrt leads Wisconsin with 20 points on nine goals and two assists while Ashley Martinez has chipped in two goals and seven assists for 11 points … the Badgers have had 11 different goal scorers this season and seven players with multiple goals.
• Goalkeeper Drew Stover has started all 18 games, going 9-5-4 with a .778 save percentage with a .89 goals against average and seven shutouts.
• This is the 25th NCAA Tournament appearance for Wisconsin.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs WISCONSIN
• This is the first-ever meeting between Maine and Wisconsin.
• Maine has only played one other Big Ten school and it came earlier this season in a 3-0 road loss at Rutgers.

• The winner of the Maine-Wisconsin first round match will advance to face the winner of Virginia-Princeton.
