Preview: Soccer Faces Harvard in NCAA Tournament

The Black Bears and Crimson will face off on Saturday, Nov. 11.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will face Harvard in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass.

The Black Bears advanced to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament with a 3-2 double-overtime victory of UMass Lowell in the America East title game. Lara Kirkby scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second overtime period to give Maine its first-ever America East Tournament trophy.
 
Harvard, who earned a four-seed in the 2023 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, is playing in its third consecutive NCAA Tournament and 19th overall. The Crimson topped Columbia, 3-0, in the Ivy League Tournament Championship game to earn an automatic bid.

• Maine brings an overall record of 11-1-6 into the NCAA Tournament after topping UMass Lowell, 3-2, for the America East title.
• Abby Kraemer leads the conference in points (30), points per game (1.88), goals (13), shots (68) and shots per game (4.00) … she has a career-high six game-winning goals on the year and has also set career-bests in goals (13), assists (2) and points (30).
• Overall, the Black Bears have 13 different goal scorers on the year ... Julie Lossius has a team-leading five assists.
• Kira Kutzinski is 11-1-6 on the year with six shutouts, an .790 save percentage and an 0.93 goals against average.
• Maine's 11 wins mark the most in a single-season since the team went 14-4-2 in 2006.
• The Black Bears opened up the season with a program record 8-0-4 unbeaten streak.

ABOUT HARVARD
• Harvard enters Saturday's NCAA Tournament game with an overall mark of 12-3-2 after topping Columbia, 3-0, for the Ivy League Tournament title.
• Josefine Hasbo leads Harvard with 24 points on nine goals and six assists … Gabby DelPico's seven assists lead the team … five total players are in double-digit in scoring.
• Goalkeeper Anna Karpenko has seen the majority of minutes in goal, going 12-2-2 with a .605 save percentage, 0.95 goals against average and seven shutouts.
• Harvard is 10-17-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

AMERICA EAST CHAMPS!
• Maine won its first America East Tournament title with a 3-2 double-overtime win over UMass Lowell … with the win, the Black Bears earned a spot in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament.
• Maine jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Kayla Kraemer goal and a Lara Kirkby penalty-kick conversion but the River Hawks tied things up with 14 seconds to play in the half … UMass Lowell equalized late in the second half with a penalty kick of their own but Kirkby's 105th minute strike earned Maine the trophy.
• Abby Kraemer, Kristina Kelly, Rebecca Grisdale and Kirkby earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
• Myla Schneider earned the Elite 18 Award for having the highest GPA among student-athletes competing in the championship.

• Abby Kraemer leads the team and America East in points (30), points per game (1.76), goals (13), shots (68) and shots per game (4.00) … she has a career-high six game-winning goals on the year and has also set career-bests in goals (13), assists (2) and points (30).
• Kraemer's 13 goals mark the most for an America East player in a single season since 2018 … her 13 goals tie for the most by a Maine player since Laura Martel's 13 goals during the 2009 season.
• Her 30 points on the year are the most in a single-season for a Maine player since Heather Hathorn had 29 points (10-9-29) in 2004 … Kraemer trails only Sophie Lecot's 1996 season in which she had 17 goals and 38 points.
