ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will play Stonehill College for the first time ever this weekend in Bridgewater, Mass. The non-conference series begins with a 5 P.M. game on Friday, Oct 6 and a second game on Saturday is set for 1pm. 

Latest news on the Black Bears:
The Black Bears come off the weekend with two losses against #8 nationally ranked Quinnipiac. Senior netminder Anna LaRose started in game one of the series, making 28 saves on 30 shots in the 3-0 loss. 

Freshman netminder Julia Bachetti saw her first collegiate game in the second matchup of the weekend, as she stopped 33 of the 38 shots. Freshman Lily Fetch tallied Maine's loan goal on the weekend for her first career goal. 

Scouting the Stonehill Skyhawks:
The Skyhawks started the 2023-24 season with an exhibition game that ended in a 7-0 loss to Boston College. This past weekend, the Skyhawks were blanked by RPI by scores of 1-0 and 7-0. Junior goalkeeper Hanna Zukow was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance's (NEWHA) Goalie of the Week after making 29 saves in the season opener, holding RPI to a one goal game. 

Stonehill, competing in its inaugural season in 2022-23, finished third in the regular season NEWHA standings with a record of 19-16-2.

As both teams sit at an 0-2-0 record, Maine and Stonehill are both looking to earn their first victory of the 2023-34 season.
