ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Kessock Field.

In the top of the first inning, the River Hawks scored one run on a triple to deep right. The Black Bears cut down a runner at home saving a run. After one the first, Maine trailed 1-0.

The Black Bears scored one run in the bottom of the second when
Izzy Nieblas doubled to center field. After two innings, the score was tied 1-1.

UMass Lowell regained the lead with a three-run opposite field home run. After the top of the third inning, Maine trailed 4-1. The River Hawks added a single run in the fourth, fifth, and seventh inning. After the top of seventh, the score was 7-1 UMass Lowell.

The Black Bears scored one in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough. Maine fell 7-2 in the America East contest.
