Game 1 - Maine: 2 New Mexico: 10
In the bottom of the second inning, Kyrah Dailey doubled to deep center while the bases were loaded. Izzy Nieblas and Gabby Papushka, who reached earlier in the inning, both touched home on the two-bagger.
The Lobos mounted a rally in the top of the fourth inning. The Lobos posted one run before Gabbie Siciliano was pulled from the game. Alexandra Gruitch allowed one inherited runner score before slamming the door. After four complete innings, the contest was tied 2-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Lobos blasted a solo shot. During their ups in the sixth inning, they posted six in the top of sixth inning. After six in Utah, Maine trailed 9-2.
The Black Bears were unable to mount a comeback after the Lobos scored another run in the seventh. Maine dropped the first game of the day, 10-2.
Notes:
- Gabbie Siciliano (1-2), Alexandra Gruitch, and Caitlyn Fallon all appeared in the first game of the afternoon. They combined to allow only four earned runs, strike out two, and walk only fuor.
- Kya Enos, Jasmine Gray, Kennedy Priest, Keely Clark, Izzy Nieblas, and Kyrah Dailey all recorded a hit in the loss.
Dixie State jumped to an early two run lead in the bottom of the first inning. A double and two singles equaled two quick runs for the home squad. After one inning, Maine trailed 2-0.
The Black Bears cut into the Dixie State lead when Mariah Pearson doubled to left center. Gabby Papushka came around to score on the extra base hit. After two innings, Maine was down by a score of 2-1.
The Trailblazers posted three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Emily Reid was relieved by Alexandra Gruitch during the frame. DSU held a 5-1 lead after four.
Maine tossed on the rally caps and scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Jasmine Gray, Keely Clark (two), and Gabby Papushka all recorded a run scoring base knock in the frame. Rylee Kent, Emma Larke, Clark, and Gray touched home during the rally. The score was tied 5-5 after the Black Bears' half of the fifth.
Rebecca Findley popped, in foul territory, to the catcher. The catcher caught the ball but was unable to throw out Katie Jo Moery. The lead was short lived because DSU's first batter homered in the bottom of the sixth. The runs did not stop as the Trailblazers crossed home plate eight more times to complete the run rule, 14-6.
Notes:
- Alexandra Gruitch (0-5), Emily Reid, and Gabbie Siciliano, once again, all appeared in the contest. They allowed 12 earned runs.
- Keely Clark led the way at the plate with two RBI. Rebecca Findley, Jasmine Gray, Gabby Papushka, and Mariah Pearson chipped in with the rest of the RBI.
Next: The Black Bears return to the diamond for the final game tomorrow, Saturday, March 13, of the Dixie Softball Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
