Orono, Maine -- Four members of the University of Maine football team have earned All-CAA accolades, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon. Offensive lineman
Michael Gerace and linebacker
Adrian Otero each earned a spot on the All-CAA second team while tight end
Shawn Bowman and fullback
Zavier Scott were named to the All-CAA third team.
Gerace, who made an impressive 46 starts for the Black Bears including 45 consecutive to end his career, earns his second All-CAA honor after also being named to the league's second team in 2021. Gerace, an All-CAA Preseason selection to start the year, was a two-time captain for the Black Bears and played every position across the offensive line during his time in Orono.
Otero, who appeared in 51 games with 38 starts at Maine, concluded his career with 256 tackles, three sacks, and three interceptions. In 2022, Otero led Maine with 72 tackles to go along with a pair of interceptions. A captain in 2022, Otero either led or ranked second on the team in total tackles in seven of Maine's 11 contests including a season-high 10 stops at Boston College. His 72 total tackles ranked 18th best in the league while his 6.5 stops per game marked him 21st in the CAA.
Prior to his season-ending injury, Bowman ranked at the top of Maine's receiving list in numerous categories including touchdown receptions, receiving yards, and receptions. In eight games this season, Bowman produced 31 receptions for 377 yards and ranked second on the team with five touchdown receptions. Bowman ranked 17th in the CAA with 3.9 receptions per game and 18th at 47.1 receiving yards per game while his five touchdown receptions placed him tied for 10th best among CAA leaders.
Scott was an offensive weapon for the Black Bears as a threat both through the air and on the ground. Scott led the Black Bears with a career-high 42 receptions while also leading Maine with a career-best 434 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Scott averaged a league-high 9.3 yards per carry with 371 yards on 39 attempts while ranking second on the team with four rushing touchdowns.
