  • The Black Bears are making their first trip to Hampton as the Pirates are in the middle of their first season as a member of the CAA. Maine is looking for its first win in the state of Virginia since it defeated Richmond, 28-9, on Nov. 10, 2018. The Black Bears have won three straight CAA road contests, dating back to last season, and four of their last six overall CAA showdowns.
  • Last time out, the Black Bears dropped their CAA opener at home against preseason CAA favorite, #14 Villanova. In the loss, Shawn Bowman tallied a career-high seven receptions along with a touchdown while Zavier Scott and Montigo Moss each also found the end zone. For Moss, it marked his third-straight game with a touchdown reception. Xavier Mitchell paced the defense with a season-high nine tackles.
  • Hampton enters the contest 3-1 and 2-0 at home. The Pirates opened the season with a pair of wins but are currently in the midst of a two-game losing skid after dropping their CAA opener at Delaware, 35-3. The Pirates rank first in the CAA in rushing defense (90.2 ypg) and have yet to allow a rushing touchdown this season. Hampton also leads the CAA with seven interceptions and checks in third with a +2 turnover margin.
  • Maine, winners of 15 of its last 21 games in October, has recorded 9.0 sacks through four games, just three sacks short of what the Black Bears were able to total in all of 2021. Quarterback Joe Fagnano recently surpassed 4,000 passing yards for his career to become just the 11th player in Maine's 130 year history to eclipse the 4,000 yard plateau. Shawn Bowman leads Maine and ranks ninth in the CAA at 4.5 receptions per game while Montigo Moss has recorded a touchdown reception in each of Maine's last three games, including one last weekend which earned him the top spot on ESPN's "You Got Mossed" segment. Linebacker Adrian Otero and Brian Lee, Jr. are tied for 20th in the league at 6.8 tackles per game. In special teams, Trevin Ewing enters ranked second in the CAA at 23.6 yards per kickoff return while Brian Cooey sits third in punting, averaging 43.4 yards per attempt.
