Northfield, Vt. -- The University of Maine men's swim team defeating Norwich University, 203-73, on Sunday afternoon. Maine was dominant in the meet, scoring 12 individual victories, a win in the 200 medley relay, and set a new pool record in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Black Bears swept the podium in 11 different events and took the top four spots in the 200 medley relay.
Andy Sprague,
Kazu Temple, and
Kevin Arpin each registered a pair of victories to lead the way for Maine. Sprague took the top spot in both the 50-yard butterfly (23.70) and the 100 fly (52.48). Temple took first place honors in the 50 breaststroke at 27.71 and captured a win in the 100 breaststroke with a final time of 1:00.65.
Kevin Arpin won the 50 freestyle at 22.25 and touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.38.
Quintin Cheadle and
Conor Hughes led the way in the distance events for Maine, each scoring an individual victory. Cheadle won the 1000 freestyle at 10:32.17 and placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:16.99. Hughes took the top mark in the 500 freestyle at 5:12.32 and was the runner-up to Cheadle in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall at 10:48.77.
Nick Gould captured a victory in the 50 backstroke at 25.44 and placed second in the 50 fly with a time of 24.24.
Zareck Tello scored the top showing in the 200 freestyle, winning the event in 1:52.07. Tello added a third place finish in the 100 freestyle at 49.93.
Liam Blair took the top spot in the 100 backstroke at 55.16 and placed third in the 150 back at 25.87.
Kellen Doyle rounded out Maine's individual victors with a winning time of 2:06.86 in the 200 IM. Doyle also placed third in the 100 fly, touching the wall at 55.52.
Hayden Kasavicha found his way to the podium on three occasions. Kasavicha was the runner-up in the 100 fly (54.33) and the 200 IM (2:09.60) and added a third place showing in the 50 fly at 24.32.
Max Ginsburg turned in a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 backstroke (25.70) and the 100 back (55.18) while
Jacob Ketch also added two second place finishes as the runner-up in the 50 freestyle (22.54) and the 100 free (49.67).
Eric Turner placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.20 and took third in the 500 free at 5:22.96.
Drew St. Jean registered a pair of third place finishes in the 50 free (23.29) and 100 back (56.83).
Matt Kwan was the runner-up in the 50 breaststroke at 28.61 while
Rooster Cardin placed second in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:03.80.
The Black Bears took the top four spots in the 200 medley relay with the team of Blair, Temple, Sprague, and Arpin taking top honors with a winning time of 1:38.12.
Sprague, Ketch, Blair, and Arpin smashed the pool record in the 400 freestyle relay with a finals time of 3:16.28.
