Orono, Maine -- University of Maine head softball coach
Mike Coutts is pleased to announce his team's tentative 2021 regular season game schedule. The spring slate begins when the Black Bears open the season on March 5 with a doubleheader at West Point to take on Army.
The Black Bears are coming off a season that was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the team carried no seniors, virtually the entire team will return to Orono.
UMaine's opening series will take place as part of a three-game series held on the campus of Army. Maine will open play on March 5 with a double dip before finishing the series in West Point with a single game on the 6th.
The opening season road trip continues in Connecticut. The Black Bears will play a single game at UConn on March 13. After the battle with the Huskies, the Black Bears will travel to Fairfield, Connecticut, to play Sacred Heart University. The two will face-off twice on March 14.
It's right back to the road for UMaine when they travel to the Bronx, New York, for three games against Fordham University. A twin-bill is set for March 20, before the two lace it up for a single game the next day. Merrimack College stands in the way of conference play. Since it will be a beautiful day to play two, the Warriors and Black Bears will do as such on March 30.
America East play begins on April 2 when the Black Bears open the conference slate with a doubleheader at UMass Lowell and a single game on April 3. Before making the trek back to Orono, Maine will make a stop at Bryant University for a single game on April 6.
On April 10 and 11, the Black Bears will host their home opener at Kessock Field when they welcome the University of Hartford to Orono. The America East foes are scheduled for a Saturday doubleheader and a Sunday single game as part of a three-game homestand.
A weekend conference road trip takes place at Binghamton, beginning with a pair on April 17th and closing with a single game on the 18th.
Stony Brook will be the next America East opponent to travel to the northern part of the state of Maine. A doubleheader is set for April 24th before finishing the series on April 25th.
Maine will embark on its final America East road trip of the 2021 season with a doubleheader at UMBC on May 1 and a single game on the 2nd.
The final home series of the 2021 regular season will be against UAlbany. A doubleheader will take place on May 7th, before senior day will be hosted on the 8th.
