PREVIEW: Football returns home riding three-game win streak

Black Bears host Stony Brook on Military Appreciation Day, Senior Day

Orono, Maine -- Maine (4-4, 3-3 CAA) carries a three-game win streak into its meeting with Stony Brook (3-5, 2-3 CAA) on Saturday, Nov. 6 at noon on Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day, presented by Dead River Company. Saturday's Senior Day game is presented by Renewal by Andersen & Army ROTC.

Tickets are still available for Saturday's game and can be purchased by calling 207.581.BEAR, in-person at the UMaine Athletics Box Office located at Alfond Arena, or online at GoBlackBears.com/tickets. Saturday's game will be broadcast live locally on ABC-7 Bangor and WPXT-Portland and also streamed live via the FloFootball platform. The game can also be heard worldwide on the Black Bear Sports Network and locally in Maine on 103.9 FM, 101.3 FM, 95.1 FM, 100.5 FM, 1450 AM, 1310 AM.
  • Military Appreciation Day: The University of Maine athletic department is proud to once again bring to our service men and women its Military Appreciation Series, presented by Dead River Company. This partnership, in its sixth year, provides the opportunity for the Black Bears to honor our military men and women at select athletic events over the course of the 2021-22 season. A major component of the Military Appreciation Series partnership with Dead River Company is to provide all military personnel, veterans and their immediate family members complimentary tickets to each of the selected games. Military personnel and veterans with proper identification are asked to call the ticket office at 207-581-BEAR to reserve complimentary tickets for themselves and their immediate family members. Ticket(s) may also be picked up by visiting the UMaine Athletics box office, located in Alfond Arena.   • Dead River Company will be handing out special koozies to fans as they enter the gates at Alfond Stadium (while supplies last).
  • Senior Day: The Black Bears will honor their senior class with a special on-field recognition prior to Saturday's game. The UMaine Marching Band, Dance Team, and Cheer Team will also recognize their seniors during the event.

  • Maine and Stony Brook meet for the ninth meeting between the two programs, and for the second time in 2021 after a spring match-up, won by Maine 35-19, back on March 20. In that win, Andre Miller posted eight receptions for 133 yards and three touchdowns. The Black Bears currently hold a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series. Maine is 3-1 all-time at home against the Seawolves. The Black Bears have won three of the last four meetings. Maine's last win at home over Stony Brook came in 2015, a 23-10 decision. Maine won each of the first three meetings in Orono before suffering a 20-19 loss in Stony Brook's last visit to Orono in 2017. In that game, Stony Brook capturing the win on a 35-yard touchdown pass as time expired. The two teams first met in 2007 when Stony Brook registered a 30-23 win in double overtime on its home turf.
  • Maine is coming off its third-straight win and its most complete game of the season as it went on the road and earned a 45-24 victory at #24 Rhode Island. The Black Bears produced its most points (45) since 2019 (47, Nov. 2, UAlbany) and its most total yards (526) since 2019 (572, Oct. 19, at Liberty). Maine featured a balanced offense, with 264 pass yards and 264 rush yards, its most rush yards since 2018 (Dec. 1, 268, Jacksonville State) behind a career-high 123 yards and a touchdown from Freddie Brock. Maine's defense, led by Ray Miller's 11 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 3.0 TFLs, limited URI to 2-of-12 on third down, holding URI to 10 first downs, and limiting the Rams to just three first half points. For their efforts, Brock was named the CAA Rookie of the Week while Miller earned a Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
  • Stony Brook, coming off a bye, have strung together two-straight wins with victories against Richmond (27-14) and, then No. 14, Delaware (34-17). The Seawolves are 1-3 on the road, and bring the CAA's third-ranked rush offense (171.9 ypg) to Orono. Stony Brook is led by Ty'Son Lawton who leads the CAA in rushing at 98.4 yards per game to go along with a league-high eight rushing touchdowns.
  • During its current three-game win streak, Maine is averaging 30.3 points per game while limiting the opponent to 18.7. Maine is averaging 175.3 rush yards during the stretch, led by Freddie Brock's 92.7 per game and three touchdowns. Overall, Maine is averaging 398 yards of total offense during the streak. The defense has held the last three opponents to just 9/35 (25.7%) on third down.
