Box Score DURHAM, New Hampshire – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell in the border battle against the UNH Wildcats, 4-1.
The Wildcats wasted no time jumping out to the early lead as Paige Rynne netted her first goal of the season to get UNH out to a 1-0 lead. Tamara Thierus (4) picked up the assist.
UNH would keep up the pressure as Kira Juodikis netted the 2 on 1 breakaway goal to increase the Wildcat lead to 2-0. It was her fifth goal of the season as Brianna Brooks (3) and Charli Kettyle (2) picked up the assists.
The Wildcats would pick up their third goal of the contest midway through the second period as Brianna Brooks netted her third of the season. Tamara Thierus (5) picked up her second assist of the game on the play.
Maine would start to battle back at the 11:12 mark into the second period as
Ally Johnson netted the power play goal to get Maine within two. For Johnson, it was her third goal of the season.
Ida Press (2) and
Elise Morphy (2) picked up the assists.
UNH would ice the game with 2:15 remaining as Charli Kettyle fired a puck into the empty Black Bear net to register her first goal of the season. Ava Boutilier (1) picked up the assist.
For UNH, they would go down as their first win of the 2021-22 season. Boutilier picked up the win in net, gathering in 30 saves on 31 shots.
For Maine, they are still searching for that elusive first Hockey East win on the season. Porter picked up the loss in net, stopping 23 of 26 shots.
The Black Bears (2-6-0, 0-3-0) head to Boston College on Saturday, Oct. 23 for a matchup against the Eagles. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
