Men’s Hockey Adds Cockrell As Volunteer Assistant Coach

ORONO, Maine – Larry Cockrell has been named a volunteer assistant coach on the University of Maine men's hockey staff, it was announced by head coach Red Gendron. Cockrell joins the Black Bears after serving as a coach for 16 years in the prep school ranks.

"We are extremely happy to welcome Larry as our volunteer assistant coach for the Black Bear Men's Hockey Program. His hockey experience is extensive as a coach. His experience and knowledge of the game are rivaled only by his passion for teaching and coaching" Gendron said.

After playing hockey and lacrosse in college at Norwich University, Cockrell served in the US Navy where he was a naval aviator. He coached in the New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association (NEPSIHA) for 16 years. He spent 12 years at Kents Hill School, and four years at the Governor's Academy.  In that time, he guided teams to four post-season appearances, the 2013 Small School Championship finals, and won a New England Prep School Championship in 2008.

Married to Tiffany Cockrell, whom he has three children with, Cockrell will be added to the University of Maine men's hockey coaching staff this fall.
