Orono, Maine – Ryan Smith, an assistant senior captain from Roanoke, Virginia, signed a one-year East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) contract with the Adirondack Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League, for the 2020-21 season.

Smith finished his career at Maine with 35 total points (18 goals and 17 assists). During the 2019-20 season, He led the way during Maine's victory over Northeastern in the Alfond. The senior netted the game winning goal over the #12 team in the country.

During an uncertain off-season, Smith becomes the third Black Bear to sign a professional deal. Joining Jeremy Swayman and Mitchell Fossier who both came to terms with teams in the AHL early in the summer.
