DeLaite and Pasic lead Maine to first victory of 2020

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The University of Maine baseball program got their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking down Missouri State in a well fought battle that saw senior lefthander Trevor DeLaite shine in his season debut.

GAME NOTES
  • Trevor DeLaite made his much antipicated entrance into the Black Bears' starting rotation, as 2019's top releiver transitioned beautifully into his new role. After missing the first few series' of 2020, DeLaite arrived in grand fashion, posting a final line of four innings, one hit, one walk, a hit batter, and six strikeouts to provide the spark Maine needed.
  • The bullpen combination of freshman Andrew Ruggiero and redshirt-junior Matt Geoffrion held the line for Maine, combining for five innings and giving up just a single run each. Ruggiero would end up credited with the win for his first collegiate W and Geoffrion the save, his second in his career.
  • Cody Pasic drilled a two run RBI single in the fourth to bring in Connor Goodman and Colby Emmertz, bulding an early 2-0 Maine advantage, the first two RBIs of what would become a three-RBI day for the senior.
  • Hernen Sardinas drove in his team-high ninth RBI of the season in the fifth to bring in Connor Goodman.
  • The fifth inning brought another two run inning for the Black Bears with a Cody Pasic walk with the bases loaded, allowing Jake Rainess to saunter home. Hernen Sardinas followed with his team-high ninth RBI of the season to bring in Connor Goodman.
  • Kevin Doody put forth his best effort at the plate so far this season, a 3-4 day for the senior outfielder.
