Orono, Maine – The University of Maine baseball program has announced that the fourth annual "Gloves for Good" drive will run from Oct. 1- Oct. 31. The drive will be accepting monetary donations that will be used to purchase baseball gloves for families and little league programs in the communities throughout Maine.
"For the past three years, our glove drive has been about more than collecting equipment—it's about taking care of the baseball community that supports us," Head Coach Nick Derba states.
Last year, the program raised north of $8,000 and donated nearly 200 gloves to the Alfond Youth and Community Center in Waterville.
In its inaugural year in 2023, formally known as "Goody's Gloves", raised north of $6,000, which was used to purchase over 100 gloves, which were equally split and gifted to the Orono and Old Town Little League Communities.
In 2024, nearly $7,500 was raised, which turned into 125 gloves that were shared with the communities of Lewiston, Portland, Bangor and Westbrook.

"Baseball has a special place in communities throughout Maine, and we believe we have a responsibility to help grow the game and create opportunities for the next generation of players. Being able to put gloves in the hands of young players while also supporting our local Little Leagues is something our program is incredibly proud to be a part of. We are dedicating this year to a close friend of the program, Steve Johnson. Steve passed away last year and he was the embodiment of what youth baseball is."
