Andy Sprague led the Black Bears with a pair of victories as Maine came up short at Providence College, dropping its regular season finale by a final of 195-99 on Saturday afternoon.
Sprague set the tone for the Black Bears as he scored victories in both the 50 meter freestyle (23.73) and the 100 meter freestyle (53.06) while finishing as the runner-up in the 200 meter freestyle event at 1:58.88.
Liam Blair added a first place finish for Maine, pacing the field in the 100 meter backstroke with a final time of 58.74. Blair also added a third place finish in the 200 meter backstroke, touching the wall at 2:15.34.
Thomas Lafrance chipped in two runner-up showings, placing second in the 800 meter freestyle in 8:48.56 and touching the wall as the runner-up in the 400 meter freestyle at 4:16.49.
Riley Clark led the way for Maine on the diving boards, scoring a first place finish in second of two 1-meter events with a score of 257.40. Clark added a runner-up showing in the first 1-meter event of the day at 254.70.
The Black Bear 200 meter medley relay team of Blair,
Kazu Temple,
Cameron Kubik and
Kevin Arpin captured first place honors in the event with a winning time of 1:49.80. Sprague, Blair, Arpin and
Jacob Ketch put together a runner-up showing in the 200 meter freestyle relay event, touching the wall at 1:36.63.
Maine returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 13 when it begins the four-day America East Championships at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass.
