BOWDOIN, Maine -- The University of Maine men's swimming and diving team captured 11 individual wins and a relay victoriy on Saturday in a non-scoring meet at Bowdoin.
Liam Blair guided the Black Bears, dominating the backstroke events with three victories. Blair touched the wall first in the 50-yard backstroke (24.61), paced the field in the 100-yard back at 53.85 and scored a first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.36.
Cameron Kubik added two wins, placing first at 29.59 in the 50-yard breaststroke and in the 100-yard IM at 56.24, to go along with a third place showing in the 100-yard butterfly (54.44).
Jacob Ketch won both the 50-yard fly (25.01) and the 50-yard freestyle (22.51) while nabbing a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle event 50.52.
Andy Sprague had a strong showing, winning the 100-yard freestyle at 47.99, was the runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke at 25.33 and touched the wall third in the 100-yard IM with a time of 56.47.
Rooster Cardin had a strong showing in the breaststroke events. Cardin won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.09 and was the runner-up in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:02.49.
Quintin Cheadle touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:59.60 and placed second in the 200-yard fly at 2:01.20. Thomas Lafrance added another win for the Black Bears, pacing the field in the 200-yard fly at 1:58.95.
Maine's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sprague, Ketch, Blair and
Kevin Arpin won the event with a final time of 1:28.11.
In the diving events,
Riley Clark placed third in the 1-meter (191.69) while
Ben Sturgis also captured a third place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 194.99.
Maine is back in action on Jan. 25 when they close the regular season at Providence at 11 a.m.
