Nick Charlton has announced the addition of transfer running back
Emmanuel Reed. Reed, who transfers to the University of Maine after a three seasons at the University at Buffalo, will become immediately eligible to compete for the Black Bears as a redshirt senior in the fall of 2019.
While at Buffalo, Reed appeared in 29 games where he compiled 288 carries for 1,244 yards and 10 touchdowns. In 2018, Reed rushed 82 times for 371 yards and a score to help lead the Bulls to a 7-1 mark in league play and a Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Division title. Prior to the 2018 season, Reed was named to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker award, an honor presented to the top running back in the country. Reed's best season at Buffalo came in 2017 as he appeared in all 12 games, and started the final nine, while totaling 199 carries for 840 yards and nine touchdowns. Reed averaged 70.2-yards per game during the 2017 season and added 11 receptions for for 116 yards and a score. Reed rushed for 100 or more yards in five games in 2017, including a season-best 144 yards and three touchdowns at Kent State en route to being named the MAC East Offensive Player of the Week. During his redshirt freshman year in 2016, Reed saw action in three games with seven carries for 33 yards.
Prior to his time at Buffalo, Reed excelled at Sebastian River High School where he rushed for 1,844 yards, including three 200+ yard performances, and 27 touchdowns during his senior season. Over his career at Sebastian River, Reed rushed for 5,107 yards and 59 touchdowns and earned a spot on the 7A All-State Second Team.
