About the Black Bears
• The Black Bears were defeated 5-2 on Friday, while also dropping Saturday's contest to #13/#14 Northeastern, 3-2.
• It was the first time Maine had been swept this season.
• The Black Bears won this chapter of the Border Battle with UNH. Maine took last Friday's contest 3-1, while also winning last Saturday's bout 2-1 in overtime.
• AJ Drobot scored his first goal as a Black Bear in the second period of Friday night's game. The freshman's goal propelled his squad to a victory. Patrick Shea tallied his first goal of the season in overtime on Saturday night.
• UMaine went 0-1-1 at #14 UMass Lowell two weekends ago. The Hockey East foes skated to a 1-1 tie on Friday night, while the River Hawks took Saturday's game, 3-2.
• It was a weekend of firsts for the Black Bears, starting with the squads first home Hockey East victory of the 2019-20 season against Boston University.
• Ben Poisson and Adrien Bisson both tallied their first goal in a Black Bear uniform. Poisson dished out his first assist, while Jakub Sirota garnered his first career multiple point performance.
• UMaine went 1-1 against BU during the first weekend of November with Jeremy Swayman tallying 74 total saves between the pipes. Tim Doherty, Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup, and Jack Quinlivan all finished the Hockey East weekend with two points.
• The University of Maine men's ice hockey team enters the season with 10 new faces on the roster after seeing nine players graduate or leave to pursue professional hockey. Nine incoming freshmen and one transfer junior make up players who were added by the coaching staff. Five of the incoming student athletes are from the United States, while the other five are from Canada.
• The nine-member Class of 2023 includes AJ Drobot, Ben Poisson, Brady Gaudette, Levi Kleiboer, Dawson Bruneski, Remy Parker, Perry Winfree, Adrien Bisson, and Matthew Thiessen.
• The UMaine roster includes four NHL draft picks, with Patrick Shea being selected by the Florida Panthers in 2015, JD Greenway being selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016, Jeremy Swayman being taken in the 2017 draft by the Boston Bruins, and Matthew Thiessen being taken by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2018 NHL draft.
About the Saints
• St. Lawrence finished with a record of 6-29-2 last year, ultimately being defeated by Darmouth in the First Round of the ECAC conference tournament.
• The Saints return all five of their top five scorers from 2018-19 in Carson Gicewicz, Zach Risteau, Bo Hanson, Cade Gleekel, and DAvid Jankowski..
• Daniel Mannella, played in 15 games last year, posted a 3.66 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
The Series with St. Lawrence
• Maine and St. Lawrence have met on the ice 21 times, with the Black Bears holding a 13-8-0 edge in the all-time series.
• The Black Bears took a two-game series in Orono last season. Maine won Friday night 3-1 and knocked off the Saints 4-1 on Saturday evening.
• The Saints last defeated the Black Bears when they swept a two-game series in Canton, N.Y. on October 11-12, 2013, winning 3-1 the first night and 5-2 in game two.
• Maine beat St. Lawrence on Nov. 28, 2009 in a game played at the Cumberland Country Civic Center in Portland, Maine 10-1. That was the last time that Maine scored 10 goals in a game.
