BANGOR, Maine --
Blanca Millan poured in 10-of-21 from the field to go along with a perfect 8-for-8 mark from the free throw for 32 points in Maine's 78-56 exhibition victory over Stonehill at the Cross Insurance Center on Sunday afternoon.
Four Black Bears finished with double digit scoring efforts. Senior
Fanny Wadling tallied 14 points and a team-high eight boards while
Dor Saar added 13 points and six assists.
Kelly Fogarty rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points on 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
The Black Bears posted a 48.3-percent (28-58) showing from the field while hitting 10 triples and converting 12-of-14 free throw attempts. Maine forced 20 turnovers, outscoring the Skyhawks 25-7 in points off turnovers, and dominated inside with a 30-12 advantage on points in the paint.
The Black Bears went 6-of-14 from the field in the first quarter while forcing seven Stonehill turnovers. Two free throws from Saar extended the lead to three before Millan, the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Year, swiped a steal before sticking a trey to put Maine up six.
Stonehill cut the lead to a pair midway through the second before Maine answered with a 9-1 run. Wadling kicked a pass outside to Saar who cashed in from beyond the arc to give Maine its first double-digit lead of the afternoon. A quick 9-0 run gave the Black Bears their largest lead of the half, 34-20, with under a minute remaining in the first half.
Maine opened the second half with a three from Millan before Wadling worked in the paint for a pair. The 5-0 run lifted the Maine advantage to 18 just 1:15 into the third period.
The Black Bears kept charging with a 6-0 sprint. A bucket from Wadling started the run before Millan pulled down a rebound and raced up the floor for two. A pair of free throws from Millan gave the Black Bears a 21-point edge.
Stonehill was able to trim the lead to 13 before Maine answered with 13-2 run. Back-to-back triples from Fogarty and Millan grew the Maine lead to 24, its largest of the evening.
Maine's lead would not sink below 14 the rest of the way as the Black Bears captured the 78-56 exhibition win.
Maine is back in action on Sunday, Nov. 3 when they host McGill in its final exhibition with tip set for 2 p.m.
