PREVIEW: Women's Hockey Opens 2019 With BU Weekend

ORONO, Maine—The UMaine women's ice hockey team returns to the ice for the Hockey East stretch, hosting Boston University as Women's Hockey East action ramps back up in 2019.

About the Black Bears
• Maine has been on hiatus since Dec. 7, where the Black Bears defeated Harvard University 2-1 in a thrilling contest against the Crimson in Cambridge.
• In its first ever victory against Harvard, Tereza Vanisova and Vendula Pribylova both scored for the Black Bears. Carly Jackson earned her sixth win of the season with an impressive 40-save effort.
• Maine has won four of its last five games, with victories against Dartmouth, Vermont and Harvard.
• This year's Black Bears team has the second-best record in program history before the winter break. The 11-7-1 mark is only behind last year's 12-6-3 first half record.

About the Terriers
•  Boston University faced off against Penn State on Dec. 30 and 31st at Walter Brown Arena. BU tied the first game, 1-1 before falling 1-0 to the visitors.
• The shutout ended both Jesse Compher's 14 game point scoring streak and Sammy Davis' 10 game point scoring streak.
• Compher leads WHEA in points with 32, assists with 21 and power play points with 10.
• Corinne Schroeder has taken the bulk of the goaltending duties for the Terriers, holding a 6-4-5 record. Her 1.91 Goals Against Average and .933 save percentage is good for No. 20 overall in goaltending.
• The Terriers are 5th in Women's Hockey East with 14 points with five wins and four ties.
 
The Series with Boston University
• Saturday's matchup between Maine and Boston University is the 40th all-time meeting between the two Hockey East teams, with BU holding the series lead at 13-25-2.
• Maine is 4-1-0 in the last five games against the Terriers, including a 2-1 win on Oct. 20, 2018. Scoring for the Black Bears at BU were Vendula Pribylova and Daria Tereshkina.
• The last time at Alfond Arena, Maine earned a 4-3 overtime victory on Feb. 25, 2018 in the key third game of the Hockey East Quarterfinals.
• Maine took the season series last year with a 3-0-0 regular season record and 2-1 playoff record.
• The squads first met on Jan. 28, 2006 in Orono, with Maine taking a 7-0 win.

• Tereza Vanisova, with 46 career goals is tied for fourth place on the all-time program leaders list, alongside Tristan Desmet '05. With 47 goals, Vanisova will hold sole possession of fourth place.
• Ahead of Vanisova on the all-time goals list is Raffi Wolf '03 with 55 goals for third all-time, Meagan Aarts '04 with 61 goals for second all-time, and Karen Droog '04 with 74 goals for the program lead in career tallies.
• Vanisova currently holds third place in career points with 93. Ahead of her are Vanessa Vani '09 with 99 points, and both Meagan Aarts '04 and Karen Droog '04 who are tied for the program lead with 115 points.
• Vanisova is also climbing up the leaderboard for career assists as well. She is currently tied with Brigitte LaFlamme '07 for third-most assists with 47. She trails Meagan Aarts '04 with 54 assists and program leader Vanessa Vani '09 with 63 career assists.
• Alyson Matteau is tied with Kelly Law '07 for career points by a defenseman at 56 career points. The all-time leader spot is currently held by Kelly Nelson '02 with 66 career points.
• Celine Tedenby (6-10-16) is currently eight points away from tying the fifth spot for points in a season by a rookie, currently held by Vanessa Vani '09 with 24 points.
 
On the Leaderboard
• Tereza Vanisova is second in conference goal scoring with 14 tallies through 18 games this season.
• Alyson Matteau leads the conference in blocked shots with 56 blocks, nine more than the next player.
• Celine Tedenby is tied for fourteenth in Hockey East in overall points with 16 in 16 games, and is third in conference freshmen scoring.
• Carly Jackson is No. 7 for Hockey East goals against average with a 2.09 mark and No. 9 at .919% save percentage.
• Maine's offense is No. 12 in the nation with 3.05 goals per game, with the nation's No. 14 defense, with a 1.95 team goals against.
 
Comparing the Conference
• First place Northeastern is pulling ahead with 26 points, holding a 12-1-2 record.
• Three WHEA teams are in the top ten in the weekly polls. Northeastern is at No. 3/3, Providence is No. 7/7 and Boston College at No. 10/10.
• Maine sits tied for sixth with a 4-7-1 conference record, with nine points in the standings.
• The Black Bears are tied against UConn, with the Huskies holding the head-to-head advantage, and UNH with Maine holding the head-to-head.
