Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Emma Donovan's goal late in the first half proved to be the difference maker as the University of Maine Black Bears defeated the Harvard Crimson on Wednesday afternoon at Jordan Field on the campus of Harvard University.
The Black Bears scored the lone goal of the first half. Emma Donovan tallied an unassisted goal at the 33:35 mark. Hannah Bamford found her unmarked teammate and passed the ball ahead. Donovan's initial shot was saved by Kat Hess, the Harvard goalkeeper, but the freshman forward corralled the uncontrolled rebound and scored on an empty net. UMaine held a 1-0 lead.
Harvard's best chance of the first half came when they were awarded four consecutive corner kicks. Annalena Kriebisch and the Black Bear defense stood tall and cleared all four of the chances. The Black and Blue would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
The Crimson controlled the majority of the second half but were unable to even the score. Within the first 10 minutes of the half, Harvard had taken six shots. UMaine weathered the initial storm but failed to widen their lead. Once again controlling the flow, the home team found themselves with two separate set plays. Kriebisch and her defense kept the sheet clean, defended the direct kicks, and knocked off Harvard, 1-0.
