WAKEFIELD, Mass. — Hockey East announced Tuesday that University of Maine freshman
Brady Keeper has been named the league's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week. Keeper scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Maine's 5-2 win at RPI on Saturday to help the Black Bears to a weekend sweep of the Engineers.
The defenseman's power-play tally early in the second period – a wrister from the right dot – was his fourth score of the year and his assist on
Chase Pearson's goal 56 seconds into the game was his sixth helper. Keeper's 10 points rank him fourth overall in the conference amongst rookie defenders. Keeper finished the weekend with eight shots on goal - second on the team - and two blocked shots. His game-winning tally marked the fourth time this year and third time in the past five games that the rookie has had a hand in the game-winner.
Keeper earns the Black Bears' fourth Hockey East weekly award of the season, with freshman forward
Eduards Tralmaks being named the Rookie of the Week on Nov. 6 and freshman
Jeremy Swayman taking home Player of the Week on Dec. 11 and Rookie of the week honors on Nov. 20.
The Black Bears will hit the road on Saturday, Jan. 6, to battle Boston University and then make the short trip to Providence on Monday, Jan. 8 for the final non-conference game of the year against Brown University.
