Lawrence Wins Meet, Maine Falls to UNH 23-36

ORONO, Maine – Despite junior Haley Lawrence placing first, the Maine women's cross country team dropped a dual-meet to New Hampshire 23-36 on Friday afternoon.

The first place finish marked Lawrence's first-ever meet win, as she finished the 5.12 kilometer course in 19:09, over 10 seconds earlier than the second-place finisher.

Freshman Emma Jourdain crossed the finish line next for the Black Bears with a time of 19.41, good enough for fourth-place overall. In her final home meet in Orono, senior Cassandra Howard placed eighth, her best-ever finish on campus, with a time of 20:04.

Sophomore Tiffany Tanner placed 11th with a time of 20:30, while Hope and Faith Gardner finished 14th (20.43) and 15th (20.48), respectively.

Maine will head to Boston next Friday to run in the Battle in Beantown. The women's meet is set to start at 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Park.
