LOWELL, Mass. – With Maine's America East Conference opener tied at 2-2 in overtime, freshman Hana Davis took possession from a River Hawk defender in the offensive zone and deposited a shot in the back of the net to seal a comeback victory over UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon at Wicked Blue Field.

Maine improves to 7-3 on the season after winning the conference opener, while UMass Lowell falls to 6-6 and are currently 1-1 in the America East after upending No. 18 UAlbany on Friday afternoon.

UMass Lowell held a 2-0 advantage at halftime, but Brianna Ricker notched two second-half goals to tie the contest. Davis tallied the game-winner in the 80^th minute of the overtime period to complete the comeback over the River Hawks

The Black Bears held an advantage in the shot column 14-10 (6-4 SOG), while UMass Lowell led in penalty corners (7-5) and saves (3-2).

MAINE GAME NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS

Maine extended its winning streak over the River Hawks to 10, which began in the 1987 season.
With the win, the Black Bears have now won seven consecutive America East openers.
With an assist on Ricker's goal early in the second half, Samantha Wagg has now recorded a point in six-straight contests, dating back to September 3 against Richmond.
The Black Bears have now outshot the opposition in every game this season except for the season-opener against Providence. Maine has totaled 199 shots through 10 games in 2017, while only surrendering 72. The shots average to 19.9 per game for Maine to just 7.2 for opponents

HOW IT HAPPENED

Anouk Lalande tallied both of the River Hawks' goals in the first half, deflecting a Clara Defourt shot off of a penalty corner to give UML a 1-0 lead.
16 minutes later, Lalande found the back of the net again when she converted a breakaway attempt on a pass from Christa Doiron in the 31^st minute.
Ricker tallied Maine's first goal of the contest, less than three minutes into the second half, off a Wagg assist.
In the 56^th minute, Ricker shot a backhander into traffic which went past the River Hawk defender to tie the contest.
Maine completed the comeback in overtime, as Davis put pressure on a UML defender with possession in her own end. She took possession with no defenders around and beat the incoming goalie on the far right post side to give the Black Bears the win.

UP NEXT

The Black Bears return home next Friday to take on nationally-ranked UAlbany on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Maine will finish off the weekend at home on Sunday afternoon against Vermont.
