Box Score ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to Providence in its annual 'Skating Strides' game, presented by FairPoint, on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Tereza Vanisova tallied her team-leading 16th goal to lead the Black Bears' offensive attack.
The shot totals were even at 31-all. Providence finished action 2-for-5 on the power play while Maine was 1-for-7 with the extra skater.
The Friars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with power play goals from Kate Friesen (1:41) and Rachel Rockwell (7:58).
The Black Bears cut the deficit in half with a goal from
Jessica Jacques at 9:49 before Vanisova scored on the power play to even things at 2-2.
At the 1:19 mark of the second period, Friesen found the back of the net for the second time to regain a one goal lead for the Friars.
Providence goals by Brooke Boquist and Madison Sansone put the game out of reach as the Friars took the Hockey East contest, 5-2.
Maine's
Mariah Fujimagari picked up the loss in net after turning away 26 shots.
The Black Bears are back in action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they travel to Merrimack for a two-game weekend set.
