Maine Football Gameday Central: Black Bears Host Bryant for Military Appreciation Day

Maine and Bryant set to meet at 3:30 on Saturday, Oct. 1

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine football team will host Bryant on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Alfond Stadium for Military Appreciation Day, brought to you by Dead River Company! Kick-off is set for 3:30 PM!

MILITARY APPRECIATION:
A major component of the Military Appreciation Series partnership with Dead River Company is to provide all military personnel, veterans and their immediate family members with complimentary tickets to each of the three select games, beginning with this weekend's home football showdown with Bryant!

Military personnel and veterans with proper identification are asked to call the ticket office at 207-581-BEAR to reserve complimentary tickets for themselves and their immediate family member. PREVIEW:

  • Maine (0-3) steps out of conference play to host Bryant (2-2) for this afternoon's match-up! The Black Bears welcome all current and former members of the military and their families to today's game! We thank you all for your service and sacrifice!
  • Saturday's meeting will be the fifth between Maine and Bryant, with the Black Bears holding a 3-1 edge in the series. Maine won the first three match-ups before suffering a 13-10 loss in 2014's most recent meeting with the Bulldogs. Maine has is 2-0 at home against Bryant.
  • Maine has an impressive 10-2 record against teams from the Northeast Conference (NEC). Central Connecticut is the only other opponent from the NEC that Maine has faced. The Black Bears are 7-1 against CCSU.
  • The Black Bears will put focus on closing out in the second half as they have led in the fourth quarter in two of their three losses. Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga leads the way on defense, ranking fourth in the country and first in the CAA with 12.0 tackles per game.
  • Bryant enters 0-1 on the road as three of its first four games came at home. A hard fought 27-24 loss at Montana State came back on Sept. 10 in its only road game thus far. The Bulldogs are led by QB Dalton Easton who ranks fifth in the country with 1,138 passing yards.
  • The Black Bears will look to slow down Bryant's passing attack. The Bulldogs rank first in the NEC in passing yards (284.5); leading to a top-ranked scoring offense of 34.2 points per game. However, the Black Bears should key in on Bryant's consistentency to turn the ball over. Bryant enters with a -5 turnover margin with seven interceptions throws and two fumbles lost.
