The Black Bears Women's Soccer team looks to continue their strong start at home on Thursday, August 25th at 7pm, as they welcome in the Holy Cross Crusaders, with a 1- 1 record coming off a loss Monday night against UMass, dropping the contest 2-0. The Black Bears had their most previous match on Sunday, beating Central Connecticut 2-1.
MAINE STARTING OFF STRONG: After winning their opening exhibition game with a final score of 6-0, the Black Bears continued their winning ways taking their first two non-conference games of the season, 2-0 against LIU Brooklyn and 2-1 at home against Central Connecticut. Maine is seeing scoring so far from Anetra Byfield, Theresa Gosch, Kate Evans, and Vivien Biel. Mikayla Morin also chipped in with an assist in the first week of action. Maine Goalkeeper Annalena Kriebisch started both games, in which she stopped 9 of 10 shots on goal, and getting the shutout against LIU Brooklyn.
BEIL WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vivien Biel was awarded this season's first America East Player of the Week award for her performance in Maine's two wins; along with the opening goal against Central Connecticut, she tallied an assist in Maine's shutout of LIU Brooklyn, for a total of 3 points in the first week of action, in which she leads the team.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS: The Holy Cross Crusaders come into this match up with a 1-1 record; their first game a win against Iona, 3-1, and their most recent game a loss to UMass, 2-0. The Crusaders have seen goals so far this season from Andj Seslija, Caitlin Harty, and Alle Nuemann, with assist from Kara Shaw and Lily Puccia. Their Goalkeeper, Caroline Cashion, started both games for the Crusaders giving up 3 goals on 12 shots.
The game will be held at Mahaney Diamond with a 7pm kickoff time.
