Gameday Central: Football Meets Stony Brook for Final Regular Season Road Game

Black Bears travel to Stony Brook for key CAA matchup

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine football team (5-4, 4-2 Colonial Athletic Association) looks to get back on the winning track when it travels to Stony Brook (5-4, 4-2 CAA) for a key conference match up on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.

GAME STORYLINES:
  • Maine (5-4, 4-2 CAA) goes for its fourth-straight road win when it travels to take on Stony Brook (5-4, 4-2 CAA) in a late season, key league match-up.
  • The Black Bears had their five-game win streak snapped a week ago when they dropped a 26-7 decision to No. 10 Villanova. Earnest Edwards was the highlight of the day, returning the opening kickoff of the second half 97-yards for a score. The flashy play of the freshman earned him CAA Special Teams Player of the Week. Pat Ricard added a career-high 5.0 TFLs in the set back.
  • Maine and Stony Brook will be meeting for the sixth time in history with the Black Bears taking the most recent meeting by a score of 23-10 last season. The home team has won all five meetings in the series. Stony Brook captured the first ever meeting, 30-23, in a 2007 double overtime contest
  • Stony Brook has lost two-straight, including a 14-7 stumble last weekend at home against William & Mary. The Seawolves, averaging just 11.5 points in their last two outings, are 3-2 at home. Stony Brook began CAA play 4-0, including a 42-14 victory over Richmond, but have stumbled in its last two conference outings. The Seawolves are tied for the second most turnovers (21) in the league. Maine has forced nine turnovers in the last three weeks.
  • A week after facing the CAA's top defense (Villanova), Maine meets Stony Brook who ranks second in total defense (277.8 ypg) and second in rush defense (98.8). Maine totaled 334-yards against Villanova's defense and will put its second-ranked pass offense (224.1 ypg) up against Stony Brook's seventh ranked pass defense (179.0).
