Box Score The Black Bears turned in a gritty performance during night 1 of their weekend series against the Catamounts.

Maine outshot, out-chanced and outcompeted Vermont in the first period, outshooting the Catamounts by a tally of 17-7. Â Unfortunately, they were unable to cash in on an extended 5 on 3 opportunity and the period closed at 0-0.

The second period proved to be the game for Maine. Ross Colton of UVM scored 1:26 into the frame as he beat McGovern on a breakaway utilizing a backhand to forehand move. Rob Darrar extended the lead for the Catamounts at the 6:38 mark of the second period. After extended pressure during a 4 on 4, Vermont was able to catch a break, and saw Rob Darrar all alone against McGovern, tucking it underneath the blocker side, potting the eventual game winner and extending the lead to 3-0.
Brendan Robbins took a penalty at the 14:53 mark of the second, which eventually led to a quick powerplay faceoff goal by the Catamounts' Rob Hamilton, assisted by Ross Colton and Mario Puskarich.
Rob Michel was able to get Maine on the board at the 19:31 mark of the 2
nd on assists from Mitch Fossier and
Chase Pearson.

The third period saw Derek Lodermeier score on a rebound goal on assists from Chris Muscoby and Tom Forgione extending Vermont's lead to 5-1.
Patrick Holway was able to pot his first collegiate goal during a delayed penalty on assits from
Cedric Lacroix and
Sam Becker bringing the score to 5-2. The Catamounts would add an empty net goal en route to a 6-2 win.

Rob McGovern finished with 18 saves on 23 stops.
Stephen Mundinger made 7 saves in relief. The Black Bears look to split the weekend series during their 4:05pm showdown with Vermont on Military Appreciation night at the Gut.
