Field Hockey Secures the No. 2 Seed in the America East with Senior Day victory over rival UNH, 5-1

Black Bears are 12-6 on the season and have secured the no. 2 seed in the America East Conference East Division

Box Score ORONO, Maine – Maine field hockey defeated UNH 5-1 on a rain soaked Senior Day at the UMaine Field Hockey complex. Samantha Wagg scored twice in the game and Emma Cochran who took part in senior day celebrations started the first half in goal and had five saves.
 
With the win, the Black Bears have clinched the no. 2 seed in the east division of the America East. Maine is now 12-6 on the year and 5-2 in the conference. UNH falls to 6-11 overall and 4-4 in America East play.
 
Before the game, Danielle Aviani, Emma Cochran, Adriana Martineau and Sydney Veljacic were all honored for Senior Day.
 
Ten minutes of scoreless action in the first half, the Black Bears received a penalty corner. Ella Mosky inserted to Libby Riedl, who set up Samantha Wagg for her ninth goal of the season giving Maine a 1-0 lead.
 
31 minutes into the first half, Maine received another penalty corner. Almost identical to their first goal, Mosky inserted and Riedl set up Wagg for her tenth goal of the season giving Maine a 2-0 lead.
 
Less than two minutes before the end of the half, the Black Bears fired a barrage of shots on goal and Libby Riedl came away with the rebound to give Maine a 3-0 lead heading into half-time.
 
New Hampshire outshot Maine, 10-9 in the first half, while Maine received more penalty corners 3-1.
 
Six minutes into the second half, Riley Field dribbled into the circle and fired off a shot at the top of the circle to score her second goal of the season. Maine increased their margin, 4-0.
 
UNH received a penalty corner 61:00 into the game, Nicky Bajus scored off of the corner to give the Wildcats their first goal of the game and cut into Maine's lead, 4-1.
 
Two minutes remaining in the game, Sydney Veljacic set up Casey Crowley on the right of the circle scoring her tenth goal of the season and securing a Black Bear 5-1 win.
 
Emma Cochran is now 7-3 on the season after earning the win and Kelsey Rudert falls to 7-9.
 
The Black Bears close out their regular season on Sunday as they travel on the road to Vermont. Game starts at 1:00 p.m.
