Ryan Taylor

Ryan Taylor, who begin with the UMaine system as an athletic trainer at UMaine Presque Isle in 2004 before joining the University of Maine staff in 2007, is the Director of Sports Medicine Services and Head Football Athletic Trainer for the Black Bears.

As the Director of Sports Medicine, Taylor helps to coordinate care and wellbeing for the student-athletes. This assignment is tasked with overseeing all aspects and operations of the UMaine Sports Medicine department.

Taylor has work on a number of campus committees, involved with Mental health, nutrition and many other aspects that revolve around student athlete well-being. He is a member of the America East Health and Safety committee, CAA health and safety committee, the National Athletic Trainers Association, the State of Maine Athletic Trainers, and teaches in the KPE/Athletic training program at our University.

He enjoys teaching and mentoring athletic training students, helping them to become proficient and confident health care professionals once they graduate from the University of Maine. Taylor enjoys working with the student-athletes, helping them with their injuries and seeing them grow as athletes and individuals. Taylor uses the media connections that he has made over the years while working with UMaine football to help promote the athletic training profession.

Prior to coming to UMaine, he was the head athletic trainer at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He was also an athletic trainer for Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, Mo.

Ryan and his wife, Amy, reside in Hermon. They have two grown children that attended/graduated from University of Maine system schools. Both are active in our community and humbled to be a part of Black Bear Nation.  

Taylor is a graduate of the University of Toledo ’92 (B.S. Athletic Training and Health Education) and Southern Illinois University ’94 (M.S. Recreational Administration).

He has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 1992.
