Vestel, N.Y. – The University of Maine baseball program took the opening game of the series at Binghamton on Friday afternoon.
First Pitch – 3 PM – 9-2
Scoring Plays:
Nic Pepe got the Black Bears on the board on just the second pitch of the game as he hit a leadoff solo home run, his fourth home run of the season.
Hunter St. Denis hit the Black Bears second solo home run of the contest in the fourth inning as he hit a no-doubter to left field, his sixth home run of the season.
Pepe broke the game open in the fifth inning with his second home run of the game and fifth of the season, this one being a three-run shot to right field that scored
Shane Andrus (1B) and
Chris Bear (1B).
St. Denis (2B) scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-1 Black Bears in the top of the sixth frame.
Shane Andrus doubled home a pair of runs in the eighth inning to increase the Black Bears lead. St. Denis (1B) and
Albert De La Rosa (1B) scored on the play.
St. Denis capped off his career day with his second home run of the contest and seventh of the season in the ninth inning, a solo shot to left center.
Pitching Breakdown:
Jason Krieger (2-5) picked up the victory as he turned in a quality start, allowing just one run across a career-tying high eight innings of work, allowing six hits, a walk and striking out four batters.
Brennan Rumpf pitched the ninth inning for Maine, allowing one run on three walks, a hit batter and three strikeouts.

The Black Bears (16-26) continue their weekend series at Binghamton on Saturday, May 2 for the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM.
