Baseball Posts First Shutout of the Season in Win over Northeastern

Krieger and Friedman allowed only four hits in combined effort

Brookline, MA – The University of Maine baseball program picked up their first shutout of the season as they took down Northeastern on Saturday afternoon.

First Pitch – 3 PM – 5-0 Maine

Scoring Plays:
Hunter St. Denis got the Black Bears on the board first as he hit a sac fly to center field, bringing home Juju Stevens (2B).

St. Denis drove in his second run of the day in the seventh inning as he singled home Stevens (HBP) on a ball to left field.

St. Denis drove in his third and fourth runs of the day in the ninth inning as he hit a single to center field, bringing home both Troy Carpenter (1B) and Stevens (HBP).

Chris Bear capped off the scoring as he singled home St. Denis (1B) later in the ninth frame.

Pitching Breakdown:
Jason Krieger (1-4) turned in his best outing of the season as he allowed no runs in six innings of work. He allowed only two hits, three walks and striking out two batters.

Pierce Friedman (1) picked up his first save of the season as he went three innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits, two hit batters and two strikeouts.

Next Time Out:
The Black Bears (8-22) wrap up the weekend with two games on Sunday, April 12. Game one will be against Merrimack at 11 AM before taking on Northeastern in game two later in the day.
