POCATELLO, Idaho – The University of Maine softball team fell in both games on the second day of the Orange and Black Classic, dropping contests to Southern Utah and Idaho State.

Game 17

How it Happened
  • The Thunderbirds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and then the Black Bears quieted Southern Utah's bats until the third frame.
  • Maine got its first baserunner of the day in the bottom of the second when Annika Shearer earned her first career extra-base hit with a double to right center … Shearer would be stranded on second.
  • After pushing five runs across in the third inning, the Thunderbirds added three more in the fourth and one more in the fifth to put the game out of reach and pick up the run-rule victory.

  • Annika Shearer was 1-for-2 with a double while Eviana Robles was 1-for-2.
  • Morgan Pool earned two walks for the Black Bears.
  • This game marked the first time this season that Maine was shutout, snapping Maine's season-opening streak at 16 games … it was the longest such streak for Maine to open a season since 1999.
