Baltimore, MD – The University of Maine baseball program fell in their America East opener on Friday afternoon, 7-5.
First Pitch – 3 PM – 7-5 UMBC
Scoring Plays:
Troy Carpenter got the Black Bears on the board in the third inning with his first career grand slam, a no-doubter to left center.
Quinn Murphy (FC),
Juju Stevens (2B) and
Shane Andrus (BB) all scored on the play. The home run was his seventh of the season.
Shane Andrus tied up the game at 5-5 in the seventh inning as he hit a sac-fly to center field, scoring
Brody Rasmussen (HBP).
Pitching Breakdown:
Jason Krieger went six innings in the start, allowing five runs on seven hits, four walks and striking out two.
Thomas Stabley (0-2) took the loss as he allowed two runs on two hits, two hit batters and a strikeout.
Pierce Friedman recorded the final out of the eighth inning by retiring the only batter he faced.

The Black Bears (2-18) continue their opening week of conference action as they take on UMBC in game two of the weekend series on Saturday, March 21. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
