Smith, Woods collect America East weekly honors

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine forward Adrianna Smith has been named the America East Player of the Week and Lala Woods has been tabbed the America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.

For Smith, the accolade marks her seventh of the season, 14th of her career, and the third consecutive week in which she's collected the weekly honor. For Woods, this is her first Rookie of the Week award. 

Smith guided the Black Bears to a pair of wins, averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 3.0 steals in wins over UAlbany and Binghamton. Smith, who posted double-doubles in each of the two games, posted 20 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds, and three steals against UAlbany in which her bucket with under three seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner. Smith contributed 21 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in Maine's regular season finale victory over Binghamton which secured the two-seed in teh upcoming America East Playoffs.

Woods, who averaged 14.0 points and 3.5 rebouds in the past two outings, registered back-to-back double-digit scoring performances in wins over UAlbany and Binghamton. The freshman guard posted 10 points and a career-high matching six rebounds against the Great Danes before notching a career-high 18 points, with four triples, in the win over the Bearcats.

Smith, Woods, and the Black Bears return to action on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. when they host No. 7 New Hampshire in America East quarterfinal action. Tickets are on sale now at GoBlackBears.com/Tickets.
