Smithfield, R.I. – The University of Maine basketball team was defeated by Bryant on Saturday afternoon, 73-67.

The Black Bears staked out an early advantage at 11-4 as they allowed just one of the opening five shots for the Bulldogs to fall along with forcing five turnovers in the first six minutes.

Bryant responded by scoring 17 of the next 22 points to flip the score at 21-16 with a little under six minutes to play in the opening half.

The score remained a five-point advantage for Bryant heading into the break at 32-27.

Logan Carey had nine points while five other Black Bears had at least two points in the first half.

Maine forced nine turnovers in the first half and held Bryant to just 42% shooting from the field.

The Black Bears wasted little time tying up the contest in the second half as they scored seven of the first nine points as the score got to 34-34 less than three minutes into the half.

Bryant was able to retake the lead and the Black Bears got the score to a single basket on multiple occasions down the stretch, but were unable to jump back in front, falling 73-67.

- Logan Carey led the Black Bears with 16 points.
- Mekhi Gray (15), TJ Biel (14) and Ryan Mabrey (10) all reached double-digits in scoring.
- Maine forced 15 turnovers and held Bryant to 46% shooting from the field.
The Black Bears (6-19) return to Orono for their next two games, starting with UMBC on Thursday, Feb. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
