Orono, Maine – The University of Maine basketball team fell to UMBC on Thursday Night, 78-62.

Maine jumped out to an early 9-3 lead as they knocked down three of their first four three-pointers to open up the game, led by a pair from
TJ Biel.

UMBC responded with a 15-4 run to take a 18-13 lead with a little under eight minutes remaining in the first half.

The Retrievers were able to stake out a double-digit lead heading into the break at 37-24.

Biel had 10 points in the first half while
Logan Carey had two points, three assists and three rebounds.
Â
Maine held UMBC to 39% shooting from the floor.

UMBC was able to maintain their double-digit lead and come away with the victory, 78-62.

Notes:
- Biel had a game-high 23 points for the Black Bears on 8-for14 shooting and a career-best five three-pointers.
- Maine held UMBC to just 17.6% from three-point range on the night.

The Black Bears (6-20) host NJIT on Saturday to wrap up their last multi-game home stand of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 PM and the Senior Day ceremony will begin at approximately 2:35 PM.
