ORONO, Maine -- Former Black Bear track & field student-athlete Frank Del Duca ('14) will serve as one of the United States' flagbearers for the Opening Ceremony of the Milan Cortina Olympics, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced Feb. 3.
Del Duca was selected through a vote by his fellow U.S. athletes.
Del Duca piloted the United States in both the two-man and four-man bobsled evening in Beijing, where he made his Olympic debut.Â
Del Duca began his bobsled competition career in 2015 after graduating from the University of Maine. While at Maine, Del Duca walked on to the track & field team before being named a team captain and capturing the America East title in the long jump. Del Duca graduated from UMaine with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and Physical Education.
The Milan Cortina Opening Ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 6 live on NBC and streaming on Peacock. Del Duca, who will again serve as driving pilot for Team USA, will begin competition in the bobsled 2-man heats on Feb. 16 before taking part in the bobsled 4-man heats on Feb. 21.
