High Point, N.C. – The University of Maine baseball team grabbed their second win of the season as they defeated High Point in the series opener, 7-5.
Scoring Plays:
Maine broke into the scoring column in a big way as they scored seven in the sixth frame, starting with
Juju Stevens (1B) as he scored on a throwing error by the pitcher.
Brody Rasmussen plated a pair of runs on a single through the left side of the infield, scoring both
Albert De La Rosa (1B) and
Christopher Mondesir (E1).
Hunter St. Denis brought home
Troy Carpenter (BB) on the next at-bat before
Nic Pepe scored Rasmussen (1B) and then
Shane Andrus scored St. Denis (1B) to make it four-straight hits for the Black Bears that scored a run.
Stevens capped off the seven-run frame with a sac fly to left field, scoring Pepe (1B).
Pitching Breakdown:
Gianni Gambardella (1-1) went five and third in the start, allowing three runs on seven hits, one walk and one strikeout.
Marshall Loch took over on the mound in the sixth inning as he failed to record an out, allowing two runs and two walks.
Owen Wheeler took over in the frame and got a double play while allowing a walk in his short line of work.
Jack Donlin began the seventh inning on the mound and proceed to do two frames, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out three.
Sebastian Holt (1) picked up his first save of the season as he allowed no runs in the ninth frame as he hit a batter, walked a batter and struck out a batter.
Notes:
- The seven run sixth inning is the most runs scored in an inning by the Black Bears since the third inning against UMBC on April 20, 2025 (9).
- Maine turned three double plays on the evening, one in the fourth, one in the sixth and one in the eighth.
