Orono, ME -Â The University of Maine men's basketball team heads to UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon as they look to extend their conference win streak to three games.
Last Time Out -- The Black Bears picked up their second-straight America East victory as they took down Binghamton on Saturday afternoon, 79-63.
Five different Black Bears scored double-digits on the afternoon, led by Logan Carey's 19 points.
Maine shot 56% from the field and 50% from the behind-the-arc, all while forcing 16 turnovers and holding Binghamton to just 27% from three-point range.
Lean on the Defense -- The Black Bears are once again showing that their one of the top defenses in all of the NCAA.
After a mid-season spike that saw their defense jump into the 100's in the NCAA, the Black Bears have been playing some of the best defense in all of the NCAA to help drop their PPG allowed to just 67.9, the 46th-best mark in all of the NCAA.
Maine is also allowing just 30% of three-pointers to fall, the 42nd-best mark in the NCAA.
Rookie of the Week - The Black Bears earned their first conference weekly award of the season after their first 2-0 week of the season, earned by freshmen forward, Ace Flagg.
Flagg averaged 11.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 4.0 APG during the week as the Black Bears defeated both UAlbany and Binghamton in Orono. Flagg scored a career-high 12 points against the Great Danes.
Impactful Players -- Logan Carey, Mekhi Gray and TJ Biel have been staples of the Black Bears recent surge in the America East standings.
Biel leads the trio in PPG at 14.1, followed by Gray's 11.7 and then Carey at 10. Carey has dished out 20 assists and swiped 15 steals in the lead guard position while Gray isÂ
coming off of a week in which he averaged 14.0 PPG.
Series History -- This will be the 25th meeting all-time between these two opponents.
The River Hawks lead the series 15-9 but its been the Black Bears who have been on the winning side of the rivalry in the past four meetings, have taken all of them, including a playoff victory in 2025 that propelled the Black Bears to the America East Championship Game.
