Adrianna Smith registered 32 points while the Black Bears matched a season-high with 11 made triples to earn a 73-51 victory at New Hampshire in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle.
Smith's 32 point performance was the third time this season in which she's registered 30 or more points in a game as she finished the afternoon 12-of-23 from the floor, including a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range, to go along with nine rebounds.
Olivia Alvarez also added four triples and finished with a career-high 16 points.
Asta Blauenfeldt and
Sarah Talon each contributed eight points.
The Black Bears matched a season-high with 11 made triples, hitting 11-of-24 from beyond the arc (45.8). Maine forced 22 New Hampshire turnovers, contributing to a 25-1 advantage in points off turnovers.Â
Maine would lead by five after one as Smith closed out the opening quarter with one of her four triples.Â
Smith opened the scoring in the second, extending the lead to seven, before New Hampshire answered with a 6-0 run to draw within a point.
The Black Bears responded strong, answering with an 11-0 run with seven points from Smith. The sprint stretched Maine's lead out to 26-14 with 2:45 left in the opening half.
The Wildcats closed the gap to eight before Maine ended the half on a 5-0 run to carry a 13-point edge into the break.
Maine kept rolling in the third as it would shoot 10-of-17 in the quarter and outscoring the Wildcats 25-18 in the quarter.
Leading by 15 early in the third, the Black Bears raced out to a 18-4 run. Back-to-back triples from Alvarez fueled the run before
Lizzy Gruber's bucket ran the lead out to 25. Blauenfeldt's triple a short time later gave Maine its largest lead of the game, 54-26, with 4:18 left in the third.
The lead would not dip below 15 the rest of the way as Maine secured the Border Battle victory, 73-51.Â
Maine returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 22 when they travel to meet UAlbany at 6:30 p.m.
