Black Bears announce the hire of Mitch Moczygemba

Moczygemba was previously at Husson University

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine Track and Field Head Coach Adam Ward has announced the hiring of Mitch Moczygemba to the coaching staff as a throws coach.

Moczygemba joins the Black Bear coaching staff after spending the last four years at Division III Husson University in Bangor, Maine. Moczygemba has been in three separate roles in his time with the Husson University Eagles, with most recently being at the helm of both the Track and Field and Cross Country programs for the Eagles. Moczygemba was named the Interim Head Coach for the Track and Field programs in August of 2024 and named the Interim Head Coach of the Cross Country program in November of 2024. Moczygemba spent a majority of his time coaching athletes that participated in throwing events. The interim tag was dropped before the 2025 cross country campaign. Moczygemba served as an assistant coach for both track and field and cross country from January 2022 through August 2024 focusing on Sprints, Jumps and Throws events. He has also served as a strength and conditioning coach for the Eagles for his entire tenure with Husson University (January 2022-January 2026).

"We are excited to have Coach Moczygemba joining our staff." said Ward, "He has a familiarity with the area and brings a fresh perspective to our program. Once he settles into the new role, I expect he will demonstrate his ability as a coach and mentor."

In his time with the Husson University Eagles, Moczygemba helped lead the Eagles to two back-to-back North Atlantic Conference Championships in 2022 and 2023 with both the Women's Cross Country and Women's Track and Field programs. Moczygemba was also apart of the North Atlantic Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in the two championship campaigns with both the Women's Cross Country and Women's Track and Field programs. Moczygemba also led the Husson University Men's Track and Field program to a North Atlantic Conference runner up finish in 2022.

Prior to his time at Husson University, Moczygemba spent a year and a half at Division III Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas as a Graduate Assistant Throws Coach. During his time as a Graduate Assistant Throws Coach, Moczygemba found success by coaching a national qualifier in the javelin throw, developing several athletes from non-throwers into All-Conference throwers and while assisting with coaching decathletes and heptathletes. Moczygemba helped lead both the Men's and Women's Track and Field programs to an American Southwest Conference runner up finish in 2021.

Moczygemba, a former collegiate track and field athlete with Division II Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida, is a two time NSU Male Scholar Athlete of the Year (2019 and 2020), a two-time member of the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team and was a Throws Captain for Nova Southeastern University.

The Medford, Oregon native, graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 2020 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration Sport and Recreation Management and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 2021 with a Masters of Business Administration in Sport Business.
