WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey -- The University of Maine field hockey program dropped a 3-2 regulation decision to the hosts Monmouth on Friday afternoon.
Olivia Geniti opened the scoring for the Black Bears in the 20th minute with her 5th goal of the season.
Saylor Kuefler would notch the assist on Geniti's goal.
Martha Barratt would score a little over a minute after Geniti on a penalty corner with a drag flick to give Maine a 2-0 lead. Barratt's goal was her 3rd goal of the season.
Monmouth would get on the score board in the 24th minute with a goal from Keeley Bowers. The Hawks would add on two more goals in a 2:12 span to give Monmouth a 3-2 lead heading into halftime.
The game would remain 3-2 throughout the second half.
Jayde Temby and Rozárie Mrázová would split time in the cage for the Black Bears combining for 7 saves.
Both teams ended the game with 10 shots on goal but Monmouth had the slight edge in shots (20-15), and penalty corners (7-5).
Maine returns to action on Sunday Sept 28 when they travel to Drexel at 12 PM.
