Furber's record-tying performance leads Maine past New Haven

Furber matches school record marks in both goals (5) and points (10)

ORONO, Maine -- Zoe Furber matched Maine's all-time school records in both goals scored (5) and points (10) in a single game to help guide Maine to a convincing 9-0 victory over visiting New Haven on Sunday afternoon.

Furber's five goal performance were the most goals scored in a single game by a Black Bear since Gina Ferazzi also posted five in 1983. Her 10 point day matched Ferazzi and Kelly Newton's (2009) 10-point school record performances.

Maine nine goals were its most since also posting nine in a 2022 win over Merrimack. Maine's 31 shots were its most since a 35 shot performance, also against Merrimack in 2022.

The Black Bears posted three goals in the opening quarter to jump out to a commanding lead. Eloise Penty, who has now tallied a goal in three-straight games, began the scoring by converting a penalty stroke. Just under two minutes later, Floor Dijkhuizen added her first career goal off an assist from Brynn Dzengelewski.

Furber's first of the afternoon came at the 13:22 mark off an assist by Emily Chisholm.

Furber added an unassisted goal just over a minute into the second quarter before Julia Pieter's first career goal gave Maine a 5-0 lead at the half.

Furber would tally the next three goals for Maine at 39:57, off an assist from Olivia Geniti, at 56:11 off Chisholm's second assist of the day, and the record-tying goal unassisted at 57:38.

Geniti joined the scoring column with her third goal off the season. Leyden Churchill assisted on the play for her first collegiate point.

Maine outshot New Haven 31-0 while holding a 9-0 edge in penalty corners.

Rozárie Mrázová earned her first win of the season in the cage.

Maine returns to action on Friday, Sept. 19 when it hosts Northeastern at 3 p.m.
