Preview: Field Hockey set for opening weekend vs. #8 Boston College, Indiana

Maine to host Boston College on Friday, Indiana on Monday

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine field hockey team will open the 2025 season on Friday, Aug. 30 when it plays host to #8 Boston College at 1 p.m before hosting Indiana on Monday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Maine Field Hockey Complex.

Promotions: It's a 'Stein Game'! First 50 in attendance will receive the field hockey edition of the 2025 Stein Game collectable series! Also, Chick-fil-A will be in attendance offering sandwiches to the first 175 students through the gates.

ABOUT MAINE:
  • Maine is coming off a 11-9 campaign with a 3-3 mark in America East play in 2024. The Black Bears won two of their final three matches to conclude last year, falling in the America East semifinals to No. 2 New Hamsphire, 5-3. 
  • Maine returns three of its top seven scorers from a year ago, led by 2025 captain Olivia Geniti who tallied a team-high nine goals to go along with five assists for 23 points a year ago. Zoe Furber (4,3,11) and Saylor Kuefler (4,3,11) also return to bolster the scoring attack.
  • The Black Bears also return both of their goalkeepers from a year ago in Rozárie Mrázová (10-6, 1.95 GAA) and Jayde Temby (1-3, 2.07).
  • In 2024, the Black Bears ranked fifth in America East goals per game (2.40) and fourth in goals against (1.97) while leading the league and ranking eighth nationally with 8.0 penalty corners per outing.
ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE:
  • Boston College enters play coming off a 14-7 campaign, including a perfect 8-0 mark at home, which saw it earn and at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where it fell by a final of 1-0 to Princeton. The Eagles went 6-2 in ACC play a year ago, losing to North Carolina in the ACC title game.
  • The Eagles welcome back their leading scorer from 2024 in junior Madelieve Drion. Drion, a NFHCA D1 Northeast Region second team selection a year ago, finished the 2024 campaign with a team high 24 points on eight goals and co-team leading eight assists.
  • Charlotte Kramer returns in the cage for the Eagles after posting 14 wins a year ago with a 1.37 goals against average, the eighth-best single season mark in Boston College field hockey history. Her 74 saves ranked third most in the ACC as she was named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Year and earned a spot on the All-ACC first team.
  • The Eagles concluded the 2024 campaign ranked fourth in the ACC in both goals per game (2.10) and goals against (1.37).
ABOUT INDIANA:
  • The Hoosiers are coming off a 9-9 mark in 2024, 4-4 in the Big Ten, after falling 2-1 in overtime to No. 3 Michigan in the Big Ten tournament.
  • Indiana returns two of its top three scorers, led by Ines Garcia Prado. Garcia Prado led the Hoosiers in points (18) and goals (8) to go along with a pair of assists. Third leading point getter, Mijntje Hagen also returns after registering five goals and two assists for 12 points in 2024.
  • Sade Canelli returns with the experience in the cage after being selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Canelli posted a 7-7 mark a year ago with a 1.16 goals against average to go along with 58 saves.
