ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team earned a doubleheader split with the Bryant Bulldogs on Friday afternoon at the Pierre & Catherine Labat Softball Complex.

After falling in game one, the Black Bears bounced back for a win in the night cap. The teams will close out the series with a 12 p.m. game tomorrow.

How it Happened
- After two scoreless frames the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third … Maine had a chance to respond in the bottom half but left the bases loaded.
- Bryant then plated three runs in the fourth inning and then had a seven-run fifth – including a grand slam – to take a 12-0 lead.
- Maine loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fifth but couldn't push any runs across to stay in the game.

How it Happened
- Bryant took a 1-0 lead on a double in the top of the first.
- The Black Bears made it a 1-1 game in the second when Morgan Pool singled home Kyli Hernandez.
- Gabby Papushka's opposite field two-run home run put Maine up 3-1 after three innings.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Nora Campo's double scored Hernandez and then Francesca Guerrera's single scored Pool for a 5-1 edge.
- The Bulldogs pulled one run back with two outs in the top of the seventh but Madison Simmerman got the game-winning strikeout.
