Taylor Makar of the University of Maine men's ice hockey team has signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche, as announced on Monday by the organization. Makar will report to the Colorado Eagles (AHL) on an Amateur Tryout (ATO) for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
Makar set career-highs across the board in his lone season at Maine. The Calgary, Alberta native recorded single-season bests in points (30), goals (18), assists (12), power-play goals (2), game-winning goals (6), short-handed goals (2) and shots on goal (100). Makar led Maine with his six game-winning goals and tied for first in goals while finishing second in points. He had five multi-goal games and nine multi-point outings while also setting career-best point streaks (6) and goal streaks (5).

Makar, who was drafted by Colorado in the seventh round (220th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft, recorded his first career hat trick in February. He was named the Hockey East Player of the Month for February and earned one Player of the Week honor as well.
